It’s now July and the weather is hot in Dalyan, with blue skies every day,…
We’re Stan and Dorri Allett, and since the beginning of the 2016 season we’ve been volunteers with the Kaptan June Sea Turtle Conservation Foundation.
Our association with Dalyan goes back as far as 2004 but we’ve been permanent residents for only just over a year. We’ve spent one day a week at The Hut throughout the summer and have really enjoyed meeting lots of visitors and talking about the Foundation, detailing the Kaptan June story and how it all came about – maybe some of you will recall meeting us!
Now that the winter months are upon us, Stan is busy doing maintenance work at The Hut to ensure all will be ready and in a safe state of repair for next season. Dorri is helping out with paperwork for the Foundation and sourcing and ordering items to be displayed next summer, giving other volunteers more time to get round the boat yards to speak to the boat kaptans about having propeller guards fitted whilst their boats are out of the water. So, the work continues all year round …..
We very much enjoy our life here in Dalyan and gain much satisfaction from being involved with such a worthwhile cause as the Foundation and knowing that we’re doing our bit to protect the turtles and our beautiful Iztuzu Beach.
We look forward to hopefully seeing you again next summer.
